Subject: New Blog site

So far the new blog has been winning in terms of how often I've been posting. I like that I can categorize posts there. Please go check it out ;)

Subject: New Blog?

Well, I'm not sure if I really want to abandon my old haunt here.... I've been getting tons of spam comments but at least someone is leaving comments, hahahahah.

I'm trying to decide if I'll keep this one as more of a family post and the other as crafty/life in Asia blog. Or maybe it's too hard to separate the two and I should just keep one. At any rate, I'm trying out wordpress and I'll compare notes and make a final decision in a month or so.

Here's the link to a post there that has a contest attatched:

2007 Calendar

And that brings me to another something that has been wandering around my brain for some time. I make lots of things, for friends, for swaps, for online art buddies. But I make very little for family. The main reason for that involves feedback. The people I send to actively say thanks and show that they like my "art". I'd be totally willing to send to the ones I love dearly, but I'm not sure they're interested in my handmade goodies. So if you're family and you want something, SPEAK UP! hahaha

Subject: Very tired

This morning we had family time at the dentist. Jaylene's proud that her teeth were considered the best, and was especially relieved that her loose tooth wasn't pulled. (We had even brought along her tooth fairy book, pillow and bag, just in case). Ahji received assurance that her teeth are spaced properly and I received official backup that her tooth should fall out naturally. All my inlaws have been pressuring me to either pull it out or have it pulled out so that the other tooth can grow in properly. Luckily Jaylene agrees with me and will run away from the offending relative who attempts to pull out her tooth!

After the fun and excitement of the dentist, we headed off to ShiLin to check out the Chrysanthemum display at the official residence. It started to rain so we had a lovely pasta lunch (yay, real cheese!) and then headed over there when the rain stopped. Because of the weather, the crowds hadn't arrived yet and we were able to take pictures that didn't include strangers. I'll try and post them tomorrow. Most of them are of the piggy statues (2007 is Year of the Pig) and Ahji said he didn't know he was so popular (his animal is year of the pig, so I can call him a Pig without feeling bad or hurting feelings! Our baby boy will be a piggy too. Actually, all the "office" babies are supposed to be piggies, so we call them the three little pigs.

Then we came home, rested, played with barbies and made Korean Hot pot (which neither Jaylene nor I appreciated).

Enough rambling, the real reason for this post is so that I can share this link:

I must get a new color ink cartridge this weekend!

Subject: Happy new Year!

Been super busy at work, going to bed super early with Jaylene as we're fighting a cold of sorts. Had time to sign up for the newest miniswap...

We've also been crafting together a bit. I'm working on finishing up a calendar to send out to friends... my goal is this weekend so that they get the first month before January is gone! Jaylene and I have been making piggies in anticipation for the Chinese New Year. I have in my head a 101 Pig Craft sort of thing... we'll see how that goes!

Subject: Last post of the year?

No pictures, unless you want to see the one I snapped of Jaylene's blood shot eye... she's been battling a fever and general "Bu shu fu"-ness (being uncomfortable). Today was better, we got out of the house, went to the library and all had Shabu Shabu (Hot pot) for lunch. Now we're all battling mild food poisoning.... gah!

So, on a brighter note, I leave you with some eyecandy. I just discovered Fantastic Toys:

P.S. I'm trying out a new blogsite... stay posted in the new year for details.

Subject: Earthquake

Just a quick post to let you know we're all okay. The 7.1 earthquake was at the other end of the island, although our apartment shook for a long time. Unfortunately others weren't as lucky. My heart goes out to the family that lost their home, their business and two lives. A mother was sheltering her twins from the quake and saved them but sacrificed her own life in the process. So very sad. 42 other people have been injured.

Subject: I'm dashing now

We were waiting for the train last night and Jaylene was prancing around with the umbrella "horsey" style. She looked at me and said, "Mommy, I'm going to go dashing now" and then burst into a
rousing rendition of .... "Jingle Bells"

I feel like I've been dashing all week and look forward to more dashing this weekend. Merry Merry to all of you, see you next week!

Subject: It's a BABY!

It's a BABY!!!

No, not mine yet ;) We had a prenatal class in my home this weekend. My coworker and I are both due around the same time and we both have Taiwanese hubbies. Said hubbies were a bit blown away by their "job descriptions" as laid out by the class. Especially mine, who had to do nothing at all like that the last time. As I really didn't like the way the last one went (I'll spare you the gory details but I could go on and on and on), we'll try it this way!

A sweet shot of my little one.

12-17 sleeping

She's finally sleeping in her bed alone at night. Hopefully this time it will last. We get her set up and used to it and then something happens and she's back to sleeping in our room. For now she's got it all laid out the way she likes it, with as much of her Nana's handmade goodies near her as possible. The Pjs and hat were from two Christmases ago. The Strawberry shortcake patchwork bag and tiny blanket for the kitty were from last Christmas. The quilt was made when she was born. Various stuffies were bought along the way. And even the house tent she's sleeping in was a prezzie. Nana makes it easy to sleep at night! Thank you!

And here's something crafty... a wreath made from newspapers and garbage bags...

12-17 wreath

A hand made wreath by us!

Tutorial:
1. Roll up 8-10 pages of newspaper. Make two.
2. Twist the rolls.
3. Form into a wreath and wrap packing tape around it.
4. Wrap a garbage bag around it.
5. Wrap a garland around it. You can leave part of the garbage bag showing if you used a colored one.
6. Glue gun ornaments and ribbon to the front.

This is what we made at Jaylene's school's Christmas party.

Subject: Merry Merry

Well, Friday was Jaylene's school's Christmas party. We brought the camera and all the other required goodies, but forgot to make sure that the battery was charged. Got one family picture before it died.
12-15 Party

Here's one of the goodies she got at the party. She ate part of it for breakfast the next day (it's white chocolate covered bread).

Subject: Where is the star?

So, we got our Christmas tree up and decorated... yet there's still no star on the top. Soon... at least that's what I keep promising Jaylene.

And this has been a regular scene in our house since the arrival of the Christmas box from The K's. Thank you!

Subject: It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

While I was attempting a last minute photo for the day on the 11th (still haven't figured out the macro functions on this one), Jaylene requested a treat. My answer was, "No, it's almost time for bed."

12-11 Treat please

She then went into dramatic Puhleaseeeeeeeee mode and although the answer was still no, she did get another photo snapped of her.

12-11 Puhleaseeeeee, can I have a treat?

This was the original focus of the day's photo. It's a hanging Ginger Bread chime that my mom had. It was one of my favorite ornaments and I brought it back from Canada this summer. Sure enough, it's one of Jaylene's favorite items too!

12-11 Gingerbread house

And here's another book for our holiday book focus:
12-10 Snowmagic

Jaylene loves how the snowman is sneaking the touque (hat) away and we had to act it out over and over again last night.

This book is about a snowman who comes to life but feels lonely. Never fear, there's magic in the air and soon he has three friends to frolick with. The best part of this book is that the readers get to add pompoms to decorate the snowmen and snowflakes with.

This is one of our favorite pages.

Subject: Saturday's hike

I know, I'm behind... but I'll just double up posting for a while to make up for the weekend.

Saturday Ahji got up at 4am, went off and did a mini hike, came back because of miserable weather, and went straight to bed. Got up later and took Jaylene out for an afternoon hike as the weather had cleared up a lot. I have a "Get out of hiking free" pass because I'm pregnant.

12-09 stairs
I'm not quite sure of the story behind this picture, but I can imagine she's saying.... "WHAT? More STAIRS?" At least that's what I would've said had I been there.

12-09 resting

Resting and Posing for pictures is one way of prolonging the inevitable... climbing those stairs!

12-09 field

Ahhh, open green space. Well worth the trip, and Jaylene ran and ran and ran around up there.

She insisted on taking Snow White with her so I requested some photos of Snow White, so that I could follow in the footsteps of all the fun Flickr folk who take pictures of toys in fun surroundings. This is what I got:

12-09 snow white

I've put in a request for "Only Snow White" pictures for next time. And what's with the tilted head in every photo? Must stop that! ;)

12-09 hiking

Okay, I admit it... I wish I could've gone with them!

I've been looking at the Flickr Holiday Ornament swap and one of my favorites was:

I've been trying to find the lady who made this gorgeous creation but so far have been unsuccessful. Then someone pointed me to this fabulous tutorial:

And this was the result:

12-06 Piano & Tree

Every Monday night for the last couple of months, Jaylene and I have been attending a "mom & me" piano class. It's conducted entirely in Chinese and for the most part I can follow along. They use a "Do, Re, Mi" method of learning the notes whereas I grew up with the "A, B, C" one. Jaylene's catching on faster to this "new" method than I am.

Subject: My little jewelry designer

The photo for the day is one that I had to stay up late in order to take the shot. Jaylene decided that she wanted to make me a necklace and this is the result:

12-05 Mommy Necklace

I adore it and I wore it proudly to school and showed all my coworkers.

It was a reciprocal gift as I had helped her make a princess necklace from shrink plastic a couple of days before (which was the answer to her request after seeing my handmade ornament for the Pop Culture Christmas swap). Here's the princess necklace that she designed herself.

Princess Necklace

And this latest fascination with necklaces came about after she came home one Friday with four requests for necklaces from her friends (complete with which colors they wanted used). So this is what she ventured off to school with on that Monday morning:

necklaces

And amid this flurry of necklace designs, Ahji has requested one for himself. He's got plans for each of us to have a "Jaylene original" and we can take a family picture. You know I'll post it here if it happens.
